First part of the catalogue of a very large exhibition at the National Palace Museum in Taibei tracing 700 years of the development of the Qin state and Qin culture from humble origins in the north-west of China through to the might of the First Emperor, Qinshihuang. This first part is in two main sections: Qin, Zhou and Rong; Eastwards to Hegemony. It examines the origins and establishment of the Qin state in what is now Gansu province in north-west China during the Zhou dynasty and traces its growth and eastwards expansion. Illustrated throughout with many extraordinary items - bronzes, gold and jade. The exhibits all loaned from major museums in Gansu and Shaanxi provinces. Near dual texts in Chinese and English other than the essays which are in Chinese only.
